Cub and Co.
Entrepreneurship
Turning a hobby into a business
In March 2013, while walking through a flea market in Pennsylvania, I stumbled on a box of scrap leather which I took home with the intention of making my own camera strap. After posting my first iteration to my then 300 instagram followers, I was blown away by the response. I knew I had the perfect opportunity to combine my experience and passion into building a succesful business from the ground up. From March to July, I taught myself everything I could about leathercraft, manufacturing and wholesale business practices. I wrote a business plan and a roll out strategy to get us off the ground, and after reaching out to the most prominent photoblogs introducing our new product line, we sold out in a week. Cub & Co. was officially born. As creative director I manage product development and design from textile research to production.
Since 2013, we’ve sold goods around the world and are carried in retail locations from Australia to Japan, including at the Leica flagship store in Washington D.C., Besides creative direction, I use my branding and marketing background to grow our instagram following from 300 to 14k followers by cultivating our community with engaging content and strategic influencer partnerships. We were named one of 16 menswear brands you should know by coolmaterial.com, and have been featured in a variety of publications including Clutch Magazine in Japan, British GQ and the Wall St. Journal. My products are worn by some of the most brilliant young photographers in the world, celebrities and even an ex White House photographer. The experience and knowledge I’ve gained is immeasurable, but my success is a testament to my versatility, my ability to forge meaninful partnerships and my knack for forecasting trends.
